Time for economic forum
The Bermuda Employer's Council has said now would be the ideal time for the formation of a National Economic Forum as proposed in the Government's election manifesto in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
Executive director Malcolm Dixon said the organisation would fully support the formation of a coalition, led by Government, of business organisations and trade unions to help the Island through these difficult economic times.
In the PLP 1998 election platform magazine, the party proposes a commission made up of these organisations.
It states: "We will establish a national tripartate commission to bring together the business sector, organised labour and Government as part of a PLP Government's national planning initiative on economic and social policy."
Mr. Dixon said: "The Bermuda Employer's Council fully supports the formation of a National Economic Forum that the Government proposed in their election manifesto."
And he congratulated the Government on their idea for the forum in the first place and stated that there was no better time than now to convene the commission.
He said: "All the business groups, trade unions could form, under the Government a coalition to see us through these uncertain times."
