Education trumpets results

The Ministry of Education looked on the bright side of student performance yesterday with a press statement trumpeting student successes last year.

According to the statement, 100 percent of the students taking 16 of the 150 courses available at the senior secondary schools got passing grades.

?In order for students to pass each of these courses they have to reach a minimum of 60 percent on the various assessments,? the statement reported.

?The Ministry of Education and Development is happy to report that the percentage of students who passed each of these courses ranged from a low of 54 percent in Electronics Technology 1, a 200 level course, to a high of 100 percent of our students passing in 16 courses.?

Those 16 courses included Jazz Band, Vocal Ensemble, General Communication, Dance Company, Ballet, Modern Tap and Jazz 2 and Business Maths.

Ceramics, Exploring Careers in Nutrition, Child Care, French 4 and Chemistry were also among the 100 percent pass rate subjects last year

.?Students are demonstrating the capabilities and competencies which come from hard work and determination,? the statement said.

The statement did not mention success rates in the other courses and calls seeking further information were not returned.
