A former employee of British American Insurance Co. was charged in Magistrates' Court yesterday with stealing more than $55,000 from her former employer.

Karen Cross, 53, of St. John's Hill in Pembroke, was not required to plead to the charges of stealing the money between 1996 and 2001.

Crown counsel Shakira Dill did not object to bail for the defendant and Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves released Cross on $10,000 bail with a surety, saying she was not allowed to travel except for medical emergencies.

Cross will reappear for mention on October 22 to set a trial date for the indictable offence.
