Ferry service curtailed over safety concerns
Some ferry services around the Island have been slashed until further notice due to the and the taken out of service with mechanical failures and fears for the public?s safety.
From Monday to Friday the orange route to Dockyard and St. George?s will be operating as normal. The Rockaway commuter services will be operating as scheduled, but service from 9.15 a.m. to 4.15 p.m. is cancelled. Ferries from Somerset Bridge at 6.40 a.m., 7.40 a.m., 5.30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. are cancelled. The pink route will depart from Hamilton at the following times:
7.20 a.m. first stop Belmont, 7.50 a.m. first stop Belmont, 8.45 a.m. cancelled, 9.15 a.m. to 3.45 p.m. as normal, 4.30 p.m. first stop Hodson?s, 4.45 p.m. cancelled, 5.20 p.m. first stop Hodson?s, 6.15 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. as normal.
For today only the blue route to Cavello Bay will be replaced by a catamaran, which will depart Hamilton at 11.45 a.m., 1.30 p.m., 3.15 p.m., 5.00 p.m. and 6.15 p.m.
On Saturday only, cancellations include the green route 4.15 p.m. and 5.30 p.m.
However, supplementary ferry service to the Bermuda Music Festival will not be affected.
Tourism and Transport Minister Ewart Brown said yesterday in a release that the ferry service was a victim of its own success.
