Biker badly hurt

A biker who smashed into the pavement near a Pembroke school needed hospital treatment for head injuries.

The rider was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was reported to be in a stable condition.

A hospital spokesman said he was ?awake and alert? in intensive care.

The accident happened at 1.05 a.m. yesterday on Glebe Road, near Victor Scott Primary School.

Nobody else was injured.

Police said it appeared the motorcyclist, a 23-year-old Devonshire man travelling south at the time of the crash, had lost control of his machine.

Police are investigating.
