New Police boat to arrive on Monday
The new long-range hi-tech Police boat is due to arrive on Monday and has been christened Guardian.
Bermuda High School for Girls student Freya Lawrence won a competition to name the boat.
She was presented with an I-Pod, a trophy and a $300 donation to the BHS library during her school assembly yesterday morning.
Ms Lawrence's class will take a short trip on the boat which is now in Savannah, Georgia. It will replace Police flagship boat the Blue Heron.
The new, larger 16-metre four-man craft has a range of more than 400 nautical miles and all the latest hi-tech communications equipment including GPS while the Blue Heron is limited to radar and radio.
The MV Guardian has a cruising speed of 20 knots and a top speed of 26 knots. It will join two Boston Whalers and two inflatables in the Police fleet.
