Brown: Airline?s bankruptcy will not affect us

Bermuda?s US Airways flights will not be affected by the company filing for bankruptcy Tourism and Transport Minister Ewart Brown said last night.

He said senior officers from the company had called to reassure him after the nation?s seventh largest airline yesterday filed for bankruptcy protection for the second time in two years.

The company vowed to continue restructuring the airline into a low-cost carrier during the bankruptcy process.

Dr. Brown said US Airways clearly valued the Bermuda route. ?I think this call from them indicates they take the relationship seriously. We consider them genuine partners.?

US Airways flies from Bermuda to Boston, Philadelphia and Baltimore year-round and has seasonal flights to New York LaGuardia, Washington D.C., Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.
