Officers in the Police Support Unit made 23 arrests at the weekend including two people armed with bladed weapons. If convicted under the new Criminal Code Amendment Act each faces a minimum three-year jail term.

Between 8 a.m. on Friday and 4 a.m. on Sunday, Police say they arrested people for a ?variety of offences including suspicion of possession of a controlled drug, trespassing, outstanding warrants, perverting the course of justice, possession of an offensive weapon and breach of the peace?. There were nine reports of breaking and entering, 15 accidents of which nine resulted in injury. One person was arrested for impaired driving.

Police made two drug seizures at the weekend but have no suspects in either case. ?A quantity of drugs? of rock-like appearance is currently being tested at the Government lab. It was found on St. Monica?s Road, Pembroke some time between 8 p.m. on Friday and 4 a.m. on Saturday. Also, plant material believed to be cannabis and a dark brown substance believed to be heroin or hashish was discovered on Cedar Park Road, Devonshire between 8 p.m. on Saturday and 4 a.m. on Sunday.
