Bascome: Keep your eyes on the road

Government should ban the use of handheld mobile phones while driving, an Opposition Senator said on Wednesday.

Speaking during the motion to adjourn on the last day of the Upper Chamber?s legislative session, Sen. Kenneth Bascome said that it was high time the dangerous practice was made illegal.

He also called on his fellow legislators to agree to submit to compulsory random drug testing.

The Senator said that he had come across an 11 year old on his way to a random drug test because he was a member of the under 15 cricket team.

?If an 11 year old is subject to random drug tests then I believe Parliament can take a similar lead,? he said.
