A young man is in a critical condition after a serious road traffic accident around midnight on Thursday.

The 26-year-old Sandys man sustained serious head injuries when he lost control of his cycle and collided with the nearside wall as he approached Somerset Bridge.

Police attended the scene and the man was rushed to hospital by ambulance.

The man was travelling west toward Dockyard along Middle Road when the accident occurred.

Last night a hospital spokeswoman said the crash victim was in a critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit.

A Police Traffic Investigator has begun inquiries.
