Corporate Bermuda to benefit from Education changes
Corporate Bermuda will benefit from changes to the education system, Education Minister Paula Cox told the Women in International Trade (WIT) group recently.
"In this time where we are seeking to restore the luster of our tourism product, and when our international business is doing very well, we have to re-focus and shift the paradigm so that we are training and equipping our young people in this learning age," she said during the speech at XL House.
"Corporate Bermuda benefits. You, as part of our vibrant business community, are a key element of our clientele," she said.
"We are working towards fostering a system which allows us to produce the best and the brightest of young talent to come and work with you, for you, and also undoubtedly to compete with you in due course."
The Minister, recognising that "education is the best economic policy," also pointed to the Government's role in what she felt was a necessary attempt to change the education system.
"As the Government, we have to do more than adapt to changes," she said.
"We have to lead changes."
Without outlining any of the specific changes in question, she said: "The clear message that is heard from our educators and their union representatives is that in order for them to do all that is necessary in order to improve our education product, it will require the joint and collaborative efforts of us all.
"Clearly in education, you have the original Pandora's Box of issues.
"However even for me, and I am a cynic, nothing can soften the hardest heart more than to see our students when they are in full swing and motivated."
