Tannock defends new College chief
Bermuda College board chairman Raymond Tannock has come in support for under-fire College President-elect Charles Green.
On Friday the Bermuda Sun revealed Dr. Green had been forced to resign as Chancellor of Houston Community College System in 1995 after consultants found the system top heavy with administrators.
In a press release Senator Tannock reaffirmed the board's support for Dr. Green who will replace Michael Orenduff in the summer.
Sen. Tannock said the presidential search committee had been unanimous in its choice of Dr. Green and said he was unperturbed by the Bermuda Sun article which he said was the latest installment in a series of deliberate attempts by certain people to undermine public confidence in the college.
He said: “We have spoken with Dr. Green and we are satisfied that nothing untoward has taken place that would warrant the Committee's selection.
“Dr. Green resigned from his post as chancellor of the Houston Community College System nearly ten years ago because he felt that he was not being allowed to do his job. His successor resigned four years later for the very same reason as the article correctly pointed out, and personally, I can admire anyone who is willing to act on his principles.
“His credentials were equally notable and are a matter of record. So I am satisfied, the Board is satisfied, and the Ministry is satisfied. And given time, I'm sure the community will be well satisfied with the choice of Dr. Green.”
