Two jurors voiced their opinions against carrying out jury duty yesterday morning in a Supreme Court case.

The jurors were selected to sit on an unlawful carnal knowledge case. One of the jurors said she had a business to run and was self employed and could not afford to waste time sitting on a jury.

She said: "I run my own business - I need to be there."

Acting Justice Archibald Warner told her that if he were to give into her he would have to give in to everybody that was self-employed.

Mr. Justice Warner asked: "Why didn't you write in? You knew about this a month ago," adding that she would have to serve.

Almost immediately after, a second juror attempted to get out of jury duty. She said she did not think that she could give the accused a fair trial because she had not done it before.

But Mr. Justice Warner told the juror that she would be instructed and that all she needed to do was to sit back and listen to the evidence.
