Charity walk goes online

Taking part in Bermuda?s biggest charity race will be even easier this year with the advent of online registration.

Organisers said online registration for the Bermuda End-to-End began on Wednesday at .

Last year, more than 1,500 people participated in the End-to-End, raising more than $200,000 for local charities.

This year?s race will take place on May 7 and will feature a contingent from the Hunt Club on horseback as well as walkers, bikers, swimmers, rowers, kayakers and divers.

In addition to registering online, participants can also use the new website to create a personal web page where friends, family and sponsors can record their pledges.

?We are expecting a record turnout for this year?s event,? said Anne Mello, chairman of the Bermuda End-to-End.

?We want to make it simple for participants to sign up, and more importantly, to raise pledges to benefit the selected Bermuda charities. Participants now have the option to do that in person or online.?

The website allows participants to sign up as individuals or to start a team along with friends, family or colleagues. Participants under the age of 18 can sign up for Youth Invasion and represent their school, thereby taking advantage of the matching funds campaign being offered by the Bank of Bermuda Foundation.

?Our participants tell us that they appreciate the camaraderie of the End-to-End, while enjoying the outdoor activities,? said Mrs. Mello. ?We hope to encourage groups of friends to band together in mini-teams to enjoy the community event.?

As in past years, top fundraisers in the End-to-End are eligible for incentive prizes.

Funds raised in the 2005 End-to-End will be dedicated to Bermuda Stroke & Family Support Association, Open Airways, Sunshine League, Age Concern, Crime Stoppers and Riding for the Disabled.

Participants can register in person on May 4 at 5.30 p.m. at the Bank of Bermuda head office. Paper entry forms are available at Sports Locker, Sports Seller, Bank of Bermuda branches, and Mobility on Burnaby Street.
