Tree theft leaves Police stumped

A phantom crew of men with a large truck are suspected of stealing three fully grown cedar trees from the National Trust Property on Fracture Street in Hamilton parish.

Police received the complaint at 10.50 a.m. on Tuesday. When they visited the scene, they saw freshly cut tree stumps and noted some of the surrounding bushes were cleared and phone lines torn down.

The size of the cedar tree stumps (approximately five feet in circumference and 1.7 feet in diameter) as well as the cutting of the phone lines (which normally hang 20 feet from the ground) led Police to believe the theft was carried out by a crew of several men with a large truck and chainsaws.

Inquiries into the incident are underway. Anyone with any information is asked to call Police headquarters on 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers hotline on 1-800-623-8477.
