A case of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease was reported at a primary school yesterday.

One child was diagnosed with the disease at Harrington Sound Primary School and according to the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. John Cann necessary measures have been taken.

Symptoms of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease include fever, mouth sores, a skin rash and is a common illness in infants and young children.

It should not be confused with the foot-and-mouth disease found in cattle, sheep and pigs because they are caused by different viruses.

Dr. Cann said: "These outbreaks occur from time to time in our schools. Hand, Foot and Mouth disease is a viral infection that is controllable with proper care."

The school remains open and all activities will continue as normal as parents have been informed about the disease and the symptoms to look out for.
