The Premier will head to Uganda in May to speak at a conference on peace and tourism.

Dr. Ewart Brown was invited to be the keynote speaker of the fourth IIPT African Conference on Peace through Tourism.

The conference is being hosted by the Uganda Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry, and organised in partnership with the Africa Travel Association. One of the aims is to support the United Nations' Decade of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World and the UN Millennium Development Goals.

Travel Daily News reported that conference will discuss the development an African Diaspora Heritage Trail. Dr. Brown hosted the African Diaspora Heritage Trail Conference in 2005 and 2006 as Tourism Minister.

The trail hopes to link communities, countries and people of African descent who have a shared history through slavery and the enforced movement of millions of people between Africa, Europe and the Americas.

IIPT founder and president, Louis D'Amore, said: "We are most honoured to have Premier Brown again join us as a Keynote Speaker and look forward to supporting Bermuda's bold initiative in facilitating long-term relationships between the nations of Africa, the Caribbean, North and South America by means of the Africa Diaspora Heritage Trail.

"The Africa Diaspora Heritage Trail serves to educate visitors, enhance the economies of destinations and conserve the essence of African culture, history and achievements."

The theme of the fourth IIPT Conference is 'Building Strategic Alliances for Sustainable Tourism Development, Peace and Reconciliation on the African Continent'.

The Conference will bring together Ministers of Tourism and senior executives from both the public and private sectors of tourism, non-government organisations and educators. It will be held from May 20-25 in Kampala, Uganda, under the patronage of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
