Local man arrested in a case of air rage

A Bermudian airline passenger was arrested by Police on arrival in Bermuda after becoming verbally abusive with a flight attendant who would not serve him alcohol.

Police Spokesman Dwayne Caines said that Police were called to the Bermuda International Airport at 9.30 p.m. on Saturday night.

They arrested the 34-year-old St. George's man, who was returning from Jamaica on a chartered flight. The unruly passenger had attempted to trade two miniature bottles of liquor for a bottle of wine from the flight attendant.

Suspecting that they were stolen, the flight attendant refused. The local man began cursing and pointing his finger in her face, said Mr. Caines.

He was asked several times to take his seat, however he refused, and a shouting match ensued. The flight attendant, whom Mr. Caines described as "petite", began to fear for her safety.

In fact, the situation became so volatile that the flight mechanic and the senior flight attendant decided to remove the female flight attendant.

"They put her in a proverbial safe area until he was calm," said Mr. Caines.

Upon his landing and arrest by the Bermuda Police, the man was taken to the Airport Police station.

There, said Mr. Caines, he was processed and bailed to appear in court in the near future.
