Edinburgh Tattoo fact file

The 70-strong Bermuda contingent will consist of the Bermuda Regiment Band and Corps of Drums, the Bermuda National Gombey Troupe, and steel panist Robert Symonds. Overseas groups participating are the Silent Drill Team of the United States Army, The Royal Army of Oman Band, the Band of the South Korean Army, the South Australian Army Band, and the Top Secret Drum Corps of Switzerland.

The Bermuda contingent will be joining with The Scots Guards, The Royal Scots, The Black Watch, The Royal Artillery Band, The Royal Irish Regiment Band, the Adjutant General Corps, and The Royal Gurkha Rifles from the United Kingdom. In all there 1,000 performers will be taking part.

Tattoo performances are daily from August 1 to 23 with two performances on Saturdays.

In addition to performing in the Tattoo, the Bermuda contingent will also be performing in some of the Fringe Festival events that take place in Edinburgh at the same time. These include a mardi gras festival on July 26, and a jazz festival on July 27, when they will join the Black Watch Scottish Pipe Band.

On August 10 they will again be joined by the Black Watch Scottish Pipe Band for a Beat Retreat ceremony at Aberfeldy Distilleries. Here, at the specific request of Brigadier Jameson, the Tattoo's chief exective/producer, both bands will perform the Bermuda Regiment Band's arrangement of 'Highland Cathedral', which so impressed him during a visit here.

At City Chambers in Edinburgh, the Bermudians will perform at a cocktail reception to promote the Island for corporate sponsors, Edinburgh VIPs and the international press, at which the Premier will be present.
