Petty and Smolski win bridge awards
The Bermuda Regional Bridge Tournament finished this weekend, with Vera Petty and Roman Smolski winning the Norman Bach Trophy for the local player gaining the most Masterpoints during the Tournament.
They just pipped Jean Johnson by 0.85 of a point!
Petty and Smolski had 49.83 points to Johnson's 48.98. The Maude Lines Trophy for the overseas player gaining the most Masterpoints in the Tournament went to Shalom Zeligman from Israel who amassed a huge total of 75.41 points. This again was a close win, with the second position going to Victor Melman on 74.98 points.
The prize for the most points gained by a Bermuda Bridge Club player with under 20 points at the start of the tournament was shared by Penelope Cooke and Katrina Van Pelt, who each won 4.51 points.
In the last few days of the tournament, Elizabeth McKee and Elaine Campbell from Bermuda won the C Flight of the Stratified Open Pairs, which was held over two sessions, and Richard and Wendy Gray, Freya Giffen and Greta Marshall, all from Bermuda, won the C Flight of the final event, the two session Swiss Teams.
