Shearer is simply fantastic

"ALAN Shearer scored his 100th goal for Newcastle on the weekend playing against Manchester United. And what a goal it was! No keeper could have saved that. He struck that free kick so hard. Shearer has been fantastic throughout his career right from Southampton to Blackburn and now to Newcastle.

And when you look at his goal scoring record of 100 goals while he was with Blackburn and then getting his 100th with Newcastle on Saturday it is tremendous. He deserves all the accolades he can get. He has proven himself time and time again. He has so much experience and knowledge. Shearer has been around for upteem years and to still be on the scene today and still producing goals is great. He has worked hard for it.

He stepped down from the international game and I think that has helped him in the league.

Experience has played a big part in his success. He knows how to protect and look after himself. The most important thing about him is his mental state. He is not a big mouthed person either. He is quite humble in fact. In this sport you have to learn to be humble.

The Manchester United and Newcastle game (United won 5-3) was a cracker - I enjoyed it tremendously.

UNITED v LIVERPOOL

Manchester United's game this Sunday against Liverpool will be huge. While United managed a 5-3 victory over Newcastle last weekend both Arsenal and Liverpool lost. So this weekend's game is almost worth six points. The game is going to be a double whammy!

And Ruud van Nistelrooy is playing great. He scored a hat-trick for United against Newcastle and then scored another two goals in the Champions League this week against Basel. He is like another Shearer - just younger. He was successful in Holland and is now successful with United. Clubs pay big money for that type of player and rightly so. He doesn't let you down. He just scores and scores. That's why Alex Ferguson spent all that money for him.

EVERTON

Everton are right there near the top of the table and not many people are talking about them. But let me tell you, I think their manager David Moyes is my manager of the year - already! What he has done with that team is tremendous. He didn't have any money to go out and buy players but has got the team playing so well. They are third from the top - only three points off Arsenal.

And Moyes has basically done this with the same players that were there before when the team was really struggling. They are winning games left, right and centre. They won 1-0 last week over West Brom. In fact a Canadian player (Tomasz Radzinski) scored the goal - and a great goal it was. I am not saying Radzinski is a bad player but to leave Canada and be in that sort of company shows you that he is a decent player and that Moyes is a great manager. He has picked this team up and whatever he has told them has worked. He is getting the best out of what may be some ordinary players. However I am sure he wouldn't mind having a couple players from United.

BARCELONA & REAL MADRID

It is a shame about some of the things that happened when Real Madrid with Figo visited Barcelona last Saturday. The game had to be stopped for a while because of the bottles and stuff thrown at Figo who was trying to take a corner.

But sometimes the fans do not forgive you when you switch to another team - especially your main rival like Figo did. And the Basques hate Real Madrid.

Fans in Spain get very emotional - similiar to the fans in Argentina. The least little thing upsets them. They will probably never get over Figo moving to Real.

It is similiar to Sol Campbell going from Spurs to Arsenal.

I have played at numerous derbies in London and very seldom you find a derby ending in a scoreless draw like Barcelona and Real's match did. However I imagine that Real were happy to get a point from the game because Barcelona had so much of the possession.

DUDLEY EVE

Somebody has made a mistake somewhere by messing with the Dudley Eve tournament. When you look and see what Dudley Eve has done for soccer in Bermuda and move it like that it is not right. We do not play enough football in Bermuda as it is and the Dudley Eve was very popular - it really brought the crowds out over the holidays. Let's find a way to get the Dudley Eve tournament back simply because of what Dudley Eve meant for football. He and others who have done so much for football in Bermuda need to be recognised. Without these guys we would not be anywhere. Let's not dismantle it. Let's find a way to get it back and running. People are starved for soccer at this time of year. I have nothing against teams coming in and playing at Christmas but let's find a way to get the tournament back in the calendar. Let's honour these people like Dudley Eve.
