Biltir awards $30,000 education award to Cyana Burgess

Bermudian Cyana Burgess is the recipient of a $30,000 education award from the Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers.

Biltir said Ms Burgess, who is interning this summer with life insurer Monument Re, will use the money over the next two years to continue studying actuarial science and data analytics at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.

Ms Burgess, a former Berkeley Institute student, graduated from the J. Mack Robinson College at Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia, this year with a bachelor of business administration, actuarial science and finance, with a minor in Spanish.

She said: “I want to thank Biltir and the board for choosing me as the recipient of this education award. I am incredibly honoured and grateful that I have been given the chance to further my educational growth for an even more plentiful career in Bermuda’s reinsurance industry.”

Biltir said Ms Burgess has previously taken part in internship programmes organised by Biltir.

She spent 2018 and 2019 with Global Atlantic Re, where she was mentored by the company’s president, Darryl Herrick. Mr Herrick will also be mentoring Ms Burgess for the next two years.

He said: “I have known and worked with Cyana for multiple years and can say without hesitation that she is truly deserving of this award. Cyana is incredibly hard working, intensely driven, and she brings a highly collegial and optimistic attitude to work every day.

“I am so proud of what she has achieved thus far and can’t wait to see her career continue to develop and prosper. Cyana represents the very best of Bermuda.”

Biltir represents 61 long-term insurance, reinsurance and servicing companies in Bermuda that provide life and annuity products and employ more than 600 people on the island.
