Aspen Re makes leadership appointments

Aspen Re has made several key appointments to its leadership team.

Beatrice Morley has been appointed Aspen Re head of AsiaPac, in addition to her current role of global head of casualty.

She will continue to be based in the company’s Singapore office.

Aspen Re, the global reinsurance operation of Bermudian-based Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd, said Ms Morley has also been appointed chief executive for the Singapore branch, subject to approval by the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Philip Hough, former Aspen Re head of AsiaPac, will be returning to Zurich after four years in Singapore.

The company said he will continue to focus on his role of global head of property, leading the property strategy across Aspen Re.

Ms Morley and Mr Hough will report to Christian Dunleavy, chief underwriting officer of Aspen Re and chief executive officer of Aspen Bermuda Ltd.

Nick Macfarlane joins Aspen Re as head of Property Treaty (London), reporting to Jamie Lewis and is based out of the company’s London office.

The company said he was previously head of international treaty at Asia Capital Re and also held senior underwriting roles at MS Amlin.

Aspen said he will step in to head the team that is led by Peter Panayi, who is currently on a leave of absence.

Mr Dunleavy said: “We want Aspen to be a business that not only attracts leading talent but supports those individuals in building long-term and successful careers with us. These appointments are testament to this, further strengthening our global reinsurance leadership team.

“We’re pleased to announce Beatrice’s new role, while Phil’s move to Zurich will enable him to focus on his position as global head of property.

“We’re also delighted to welcome Nick to Aspen and his extensive experience will add further weight to our strong underwriting team in London.

“Together, these appointments demonstrate both the depth of our internal talent and Aspen’s ability to attract leading external expertise.

“I look forward to working with Beatrice, Phil and Nick in their new roles.”
