Incorrect mask guidance for small children corrected
Government has clarified incorrect information posted on its website about mask requirements for young children attending childcare facilities.
The www.gov.bm website had said that children aged two years and above were required to wear masks “at all times while indoors” at daycare centres to reduce the spread of Covid-19 when the requirement was for children over five years of age.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health said: “The mask guidance for daycare facilities was inadvertently changed on the portal while making other related guidance updates.
“The webpage has been updated accordingly."
The current mask guidance for daycare is available here.
It says: “Face coverings/masks are not recommended for young children and should not be worn by children under two years of age.
“Children in daycare facilities are not required to wear masks. Mask wearing is for school-aged children only.”
The spokeswoman said: “According to the World Health Organisation: ‘Children aged five years and under should not be required to wear masks.
“This is based on the safety and overall interest of the child and the capacity to appropriately use a mask with minimal assistance.’”
