Dear Sir,

Our family have long been waiting for Bermuda to be put on the UK's Green List — as it deserves to be. But on that long-awaited day — today (June 28, 2021) — our family of seven who booked a visit to Bermuda long ago, now find that there is a sting in the tail preventing us from visiting Bermuda after all.

The Bermuda Government's sting in the tail? The imposition of a 14-day quarantine in a hotel for those travellers who haven't had both their vaccinations 14 days prior to flying!

In our party of seven, we have two who have had their vaccinations more than 14 days ago, but we also have one who is just short of 14 days prior, and another who has had only one vaccination so far. (The rest are children.) Unfortunately, we cannot move our dates of travel later because of work commitments. Therefore, as we cannot allow two of our party to be locked in their hotel rooms for the duration of their holiday, we have had to cancel the trip altogether.

This mandatory imposition is both unreasonable and unjustified. Surely, if visitors have had a negative pre-flight Covid test, then one on arrival, and then another on Day 4 and then another on Day 8 and all those tests prove negative, the risk is negligible! So, this restriction is more than an aggravation — it is nonsensical.

As a family of seven, we would have brought much needed revenue to Bermuda, hotel expenses, taxi fares, restaurant meals, etc, etc. All that revenue will now be lost to Bermuda.

Talk about a government of a country very reliant on tourist revenue shooting itself in the foot!

Well done, Bermuda!
