Tommy Marshall placed 24th out of 63 top competitors in the Flatlands USAT Junior Elite Triathlon in Des Moines, Iowa, on Sunday.
Competing in his first US triathlon, Marshall made a good showing against some of the top junior triathletes in North America.
After a day of severe weather and tornadoes on Saturday, Sunday’s event took place in contrasting conditions — cool, cloudy and windy. Marshall made up ground after the swim with a strong performance in the 5km run where he clocked a time of 17min 30sec.
Marshall finished with an overall time of 1hr 3min 13sec, almost five minutes behind the winner.
