The number of Covid-19 cases in Bermuda rose to 15 this week after five new cases were confirmed.

Tonight a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health announced the cases were found among 6,171 test results received since the last update on Tuesday.

Four of the new cases are classified as imported, while the source of the fifth case is under investigation.

The spokeswoman said one of the new cases was a resident who returned to the island on the July 12 United Airways flight from Newark and tested positive on arrival.

The second was a non-resident who flew to the island on the July 12 Jet Blue flight from New York and tested positive on arrival.

The third was a non-resident who landed in Bermuda on the July 13 Delta flight from Atlanta and tested positive on arrival.

The fourth case was a resident who returned to the island on the July 13 British Airways flight and tested positive on arrival.

One person has recovered since Tuesday, which brings the number of active cases from 11 to 15, but none of the patients are in hospital.

The seven-day average of the real time reproduction number is less than 1. and Bermuda’s current WHO country status remains “Sporadic Cases”.

Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, said: “Please remember that the pandemic is not over.

“We still have to try hard to reduce the risk of catching the coronavirus. Each of us is responsible for helping to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“Follow Public Health guidelines, wear a mask, practice good hand hygiene, maintain physical distance and download the WeHealth Bermuda app.”

She added: “Do the research, talk with your doctor and make an informed decision about getting the Covid-19 vaccine.”

The vaccination centre at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital is open to walk-ins on week days between 4pm and 7pm and between 8am and noon on Saturdays.
