A three-way tie for first place developed in the First Division on Sunday when leaders Western Stars were handed their first loss in the Twenty20 League with a four-wicket defeat at the hands of Warwick at Southampton Oval.

Warwick join Stars and PHC on 20 points after PHC comfortably beat Somerset Bridge by eight wickets at White Hill Field.

Western Stars were restricted to 138 for eight in their 20 overs, with Torleair Richards-Caines claiming two for 18 for Warwick from his four overs and Dominic Sabir supported with economical figures of one for 14 off four overs. Warwick replied with 139 for six.

Stars were led in the batting by Tre Manders’s 32 off 25 balls with two fours and two sixes while captain Khiry Furbert hit 28 off 29 balls. Justin Robinson added a valuable 19 and Rohan Davis 15 in a seventh-wicket stand of 48 in six overs as they recovered from 73 for six after 12.2 overs. Jadon Springer added 15 not out.

Warwick reached their target with four balls left in their 20 overs, with Richards-Caines their high man with 53, while Cory Burgess scored 34. The pair put on 92 for the third wicket in 12 overs after openers Jamar Stovel and Sabir were dismissed in the first and second overs with just four runs on the board.

Captain Staphen Dill was then bowled first ball by Seion Darrell, but Jahcobi Butterfield helped to see them to their target with a valuable 20 late in the innings before he fell leg-before to Darrell in the nineteenth over with five runs still needed for victory.

Darrell, who bowled two Warwick batsmen and had two lbw dismissals, claimed four for 26 off three overs to lead the Stars bowling.

PHC made short work of Somerset Bridge at White Hill Field, winning by eight wickets with 12.5 overs in hand. Bridge were restricted to 94 for seven in their 20 overs and PHC made quick work in their run chase, needing just 7.1 overs to wrap up victory.

High man for Bridge was Clarence Trott with 19 while captain Dev Hanuman claimed two for seven and Kevin Tucker two for 22.

Christopher Clark led the run chase with 33 from 18 balls, including seven fours, while Jahmari Beach added 25 off 16 balls with three fours and a six.

There was also 30 extras conceded by Somerset Bridge, including 15 penalty runs for their bowlers encroaching on and damaging the pitch.

Bottom team Devonshire Rec picked up their first win when they edged by Flatts by two runs in the other match at Wellington Oval. Rec scored 127 for six and then kept Flatts in check as they replied with 125 for five when their overs ran out.

Opener Tarik Jennings was the high man for Devonshire with 47 as he and Koshun Simmons (13) put on 59 for the first wicket in 9.4 overs. Regino Smith claimed two for 13 and Paul Carr Harvey two for 25, both from four overs.

Flatts fell just short of their target, with 26 still needed in the last 14 balls after Kijuan Franks was dismissed for 20 on 100 for five in 17.4 overs.

Reginald Baker was high man with 31 while Nelson Bascome added 23 not out as he and captain Dajon Carey (19) were left at the crease when the innings ended.
