Superior fitness and super sub John Lally helped MR Onions to a 2-0 win over Lobster Pot as the pub side tightened their grip on the top spot in the Commercial A Division over the weekend.

Winger Saleem Mukkedum had Pot?s two best chances in the opening stages of a scrappy encounter on a bumpy BAA pitch but his team then began to tire with three players suffering from cramp.

Onions brought on fresh legs with Lee Dwyer, Rael Coen, Colin Keane and John Lally all coming off the bench.

Consistent pressure from Onions paid off as a good ball into the box from Lally bounced awkwardly, hit a defender moving towards his goal to cover, and ended up in the net.

Lally then got on the end of a Gary Fyfe cross, controlled and finished well with the inside of his boot, firing into the top corner past the last defender on the line.

Key West moved into second place after brushing aside PHC 4-1 with Kwame Tucker hitting a hat-trick and Michael Holdipp netting the other. Zebras? Keith Bell began the scoring while former English pro Kyle Lightbourne had several good chances but failed to capitalise.

North Village move up to fourth with a 4-2 defeat of Valley. McDonald Simmons and Andre Philpott were on target for Valley. Names of the Village scorers were unavailable.

Robin Hood had no trouble at White Hill Field with a 4-0 triumph over Somerset Bridge through a brace from Massimo Tirotta and one goal each from Alan Mooney and Brian Fubler.

BAA also got maximum points with a 4-2 triumph against winless Devonshire Lions. Martin Jones notched two goals and Gary Wilson and Dave Gibbs one each while Galvin Butterfield and Sinclair Anthony got the Lions goals.

Division B tabletoppers Dandy Town Roots started off the New Year the way they finished the old with yet another victory.

But they were made to sweat it out as Hamilton Parish put on an attacking display that matched Roots in a 6-5 classic.

The first half saw both sides hit the framework before Parish took the lead during a swift counter attack that was clinically finished by Sean Dill. Roots drew level before the break through Walter Musson.

The second half saw Roots storm into an early 5-1 lead with a hat-trick by substitute Sean Smith and a Darron Simons strike. But Parish were far from dead and buried and stormed back with goals from Sean Dill and Cory Hill, the latter?s free kick leaving the Roots ?keeper tangled in the side netting.

Roots added one more from Paul Cann to make it six but Parish had the last say as they scored again through Dill to make the final score 6-5.

St George?s remain in second place after beating Boulevard 2-0 through goals by Eugene Crockwell and Stevie Dickenson.

Vasco took advantage of Boulevard?s slip to move to third with a 3-0 win over Pest Control, courtesy of goals from Michael Bean, Joe Cunha and Joe Barbosa.

Devonshire All-Stars beat Somerset Extros 3-1 with William Benjamin, Jeff Richardson and Jay Bean on target while Extros captain Mike Corday got his side?s consolation with a neat lob.

Dockyard Falcons, who were missing half a dozen regulars, drew 2-2 at Malabar with Prison Officers.

Officers were first on the scoresheet following one of a handful of defensive errors, and a fine save by Dennis Bean denied them a second goal from the penalty spot.

Moments later a hit-and-hope punt from the midfield saw a Prison Officer forward catch Bean off his line and they went into the break with a 2-0 lead.

Falcons made three substitutions at half-time due to injuries and started the second half well. Latching onto a cross from the left wing, Garry Toy quickly pulled a goal back.

Further sustained pressure by Falcons led to the inevitable second goal came when Devrai Bradshaw struck a long ball from the left which caught everyone by surprise, including the keeper, as it sailed into the top right-hand corner of the net.

At Shelly Bay, Prospect/Fire beat fellow strugglers Wolves 3-0. Warren Bundy beat the Wolves offside trap in the 20th minute to give Prospect/Fire a 1-0 lead at the break. Second half substitute Trace Easton used his speed to score a similar goal in the 69th minute. And Lucan Joseph chipped the ball over the Wolves ?keeper from 25 yards just before the final whistle to seal a 3-0 victory.
