First Division Round-up

Promotion hopefuls Paget Lions steamrollered over hapless Hamilton Parish at Lords yesterday to remain in hot pursuit of leaders St. David?s.

Lions player/coach Marvin Belboda led from the front, bagging four goals to spearhead his team?s attack while Kyhon Smith, Dion Stovell and Yusaff Pitt also got in on the goal feast.

The visitors grabbed the lead after only seven minutes when Smith capitalised on a rebound from close range.

And before Hot Peppers could regroup they found themselves trailing by two goals as Pitt converted the easiest of chances when the goalkeeper collided with his own defender inside the area.

Belboda then notched his first goal when he sped past the Parish defence and slotted home from close range.

Stovell scored the game?s best goal from all of 40 yards, thundering his shot over the head of the stranded ?keeper standing off his line.

Lightning then struck twice as Belboda netted after Parish?s ?keeper again collided with a team-mate, leaving the former Devonshire Colts and Somerset Trojans striker with the simple task of side footing into an empty net.

Belboda completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Pitt was fouled in the box and then rounded off Lions? big win by putting the finishing touches to a good build-up involving Stovell and Pitt.

Yet for all their hard work, Paget remained in second spot behind leaders St.David?s ? who also won convincingly yesterday ? by a goal difference of one.

St. George?s kept pace with the lead pack as they romped to an easy win over cellar dwellers Somerset Eagles at White Hill Field.

The East Enders took the lead just prior to the break and once play resumed never looked back as additional strikes from Jelani Carlinton and Oronde Bascome put the match beyond Eagles? reach.

Wolves sank their fangs into Southampton?s promotion hopes at the Den yesterday, Keemo Smith grabbing the Dudley Eve champion?s winner two minutes from time.

St. David?s remained on top of the First Division pile by goal difference over Paget after slamming Social Club at Lords.

Prospect kept their promotion hopes alive with this comfortable victory at Police Field, scoring a goal in each half against opponents who clearly lacked finishing ability.

Leroy Mathurin gave the home side a 1-0 lead at the half with a goal after 44 minutes, but they had to fight off a late charge by the visitors who could have delivered a late equaliser had their forwards been sharper.

Najee Woods got a second for Prospect after 87 minutes and when substitute Kinje Thompson got his marching orders for violent play a minute later X Roads could find no way to snatch a point.
