Police thanked both the island’s Cup Match cricket clubs for an incident-free classic held over Thursday and yesterday at Wellington Oval.

Neil Paynter, the president of St George’s Cricket Club, was thanked along with his management team for a well-managed event despite the challenges posed by Covid-19 containment measures.

Acting Police Commissioner Darrin Simons added: “The partnership between the BPS and the two clubs worked to ensure this year’s Cup Match was a success, particularly from a public order perspective.

“There were no incidents requiring police involvement at the grounds and we would like to also thank the spectators for their co-operation during the two day event.

“It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Emancipation day, Mary Prince day along with old Cup Match rivalries, in an atmosphere of safety and enjoyment.”
