Minister attends conference on enshrining disabled rights in law

Bermuda joined with Caribbean nations in a virtual conference pledging advocacy for the disabled to be enshrined in law.
The two-day forum was hosted by the University of the West Indies.
Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Social Development and Seniors, said attendees worked on an agreement among islands to commit to the rights of the disabled through legislation.
It was held on July 27 and 28 with the UWI Centre for Disability Studies and The Office of the Caricom Special Rapporteur on Disability.
Ms Furbert said Bermuda was “on the right track”, following up on a 2020 Throne Speech pledge to extend the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to the island.
