SafeKey rules for some businesses to come into force tomorrow night

Tougher regulations designed to curb the spread of Covid-19 will come into force at 6pm tomorrow, the Government announced tonight.

The SafeKey system for indoor public spaces where masks can be removed will be introduced for indoor dining, bars, clubs and sports and members’ clubs, as well as gyms and other fitness centres.

A Government spokesperson said, “For clarity, SafeKey is only required when dining indoors.

“Members of the public do not require a SafeKey to dine outdoors.”

She added: “Additionally, employees of businesses who are required to have SafeKey are not required to have a SafeKey to go to work as all employees are required to remain masked at all times.

“SafeKey is being used for indoor environments where masks are removed to reduce any possible spread of the coronavirus.”
