Warning over fake Covid-19 alert
A fake e-mail with wrong Covid-19 case results has been circulated, the government warned yesterday.
The e-mail, which appears to be from the Government, uses The Royal Gazette’s “Breaking News” format.
A Government spokeswoman said: “This e-mail is fake. The public is urged not to forward this e-mail or any message that is not credible.
“As a reminder, official information from the Government is always shared through a press conference or a press release or advisory.”
A spokesman for The Royal Gazette said: “It is reprehensible that someone would use our breaking news e-mail format to scare people about something as serious as the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We would urge people to examine the actual address of e-mails to be certain that they are genuine.
“Any real breaking news e-mails from The Royal Gazette come from the address alerts@royalgazette.com.”
