Bermuda’s Covid-19 risk rating has been raised by the US Centres for Disease Control.

The country was classed as “Level 3 – high”, up from “Level 2 – moderate” in a travel advisory on the organisation’s website.

A travel advisory said that unvaccinated travellers should avoid the island.

The CDC moved Bermuda from Level 2 to “Level 1 - low” in July.

The latest CDC update added: “Because of the current situation in Bermuda, all travellers may be at risk for getting and spreading Covid-19 variants.

“Travellers should follow recommendations or requirements in Bermuda, including wearing a mask and staying six feet apart from others.”

The latest change in status reflected a surge in coronavirus cases over the last month.

There were 17 active cases on the island at the end of July.

The number of active cases is now 205 and one new death was announced yesterday, bringing the total to 34.
