A Ministry of Education staff member working towards a Masters in Public Policy and Management was named the winner of the 2021 Bermuda Government Bursary Award.

Taneesha Ottley, who studies at the University of York, said her goal was to become a senior policy analyst so she can help shape local policies.

Derrick Binns, the head of the Public Service, said he was delighted that Ms Ottley was selected for this year’s bursary.

Dr Binns said: “The Public Service Bursary Award Scheme identifies qualified individuals who will meet the future needs of Government Departments, thus ensuring a well-trained cadre of people to fill positions within the Public Service.

“We are very proud of Taneesha’s achievements and look forward to welcoming her into the ranks of the Public Service.”

The bursaries, worth up to $20,000 a year are awarded by the public service commission to Bermudians who intend to pursue a career in public service.

Applicants must also have completed no less than five years of schooling in Bermuda, be under the age of 40 and have been accepted into a course leading to a qualification needed in the public service.
