Rain and wind from Larry as storm passes

The island has started to be hit by the outer bands of wind and rain from Hurricane Larry.
But the storm continued to pass well east of Bermuda as predicted.
A powerful surf churned the South Shore, but winds remained low, although a tropical storm warning from the Bermuda Weather Service is still in force.
The Category 1 hurricane was 190 miles to the island’s east and moving north-northwest at 16mph at noon.
Its closest point of approach is expected to be 178 miles east-northeast of Bermuda at 3pm.
Larry’s winds have dwindled to 90mph as the hurricane heads towards Newfoundland in Canada.
