Tucker bowled over by perfect double
Hollywood produced the blockbuster film The Perfect Storm.
And on Wednesday night at Warwick Lanes, tenpin bowler Jaron Tucker wrote his own script for The Perfect Game.
Not once, but twice, 29 year-old Warwick resident Tucker accomplished what many bowlers can only dream of achieving ? tossing down the perfect game and recording the magical 300 mark in succession.
With a little bit of luck, Tucker might even have grabbed an almost unheard of hat-trick.
?I was open in the first frame with nine pins and then struck out until the last ball where I knocked down eight of the ten pins,? recalled Tucker, who settled for a 277 in the first game before hitting the magical 300 in games two and three.
?But it was a good night as far as enjoying the game. And it was the first time for me,? he added.
It was also a good night for Tucker?s team, Free Spirit, who clinched a second successive Wednesday Night Mixed Bowling League title at the Lanes.
Tucker returned to competitive bowling two years ago upon completion of college studies at Florida A&M University.
He represented Bermuda at the international youth level before taking a ?hiatus? to concentrate solely on his academic studies.
?I was so excited. Last year Blair Showers came close with a 298 game,? Tucker continued. ?I started bowling officially in the leagues when I was five years-old. But I only started back up again two seasons ago.
?When I started again I had dust all over my ball and cobwebs in my bag.?
And while some dread the infamous number 13, Tucker?s treasured ball just happens to be 13 years-old.
So much for superstition.
?Perhaps it was lucky 13,? he chuckled. ?And considering that I have been bowling with a ball that is 13 years-old, I think I?ve done quite well.?
Tucker completed the season with an impressive 190 average.
He added: ?This is the whole point of bowling and the team successfully defended our title. The first year we entered the league we finished last because we started with only two players.
?But now we are two-time champions and what a way to finish off the season. Last night was the night of all nights.?
