A taxi driver who has not held a driving licence for more than a decade admitted driving while disqualified and without a licence yesterday.

Magistrates’ Court heard that George Green, 59, was stopped by police as he drove a taxi on Front Street at about 11.50pm on Wednesday.

The officers discovered that Green, from Warwick, had not held a licence since 2009 and had been disqualified from driving for six months in July.

The disqualification period was scheduled to end on October 15.

The court also heard that Green had several warrants for more than $1,700 in unpaid traffic fines after he was convicted for driving without due care, speeding and driving without a licence.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe said: “It seems that not only do you drive while disqualified, you also don’t pay your fines.”

Mr Wolffe fined Green $200 for driving without a licence and $800 for driving while disqualified.

He also extended the defendant’s road ban for six months, to run consecutively with the earlier disqualification.

Mr Wolffe ordered Green to pay the outstanding fines immediately.
