Hurricane Sam is on track to build into a Category 4 hurricane by tomorrow.

The storm is headed west towards the Caribbean from a position 1,767 miles south-east of Bermuda.

The rapidly growing storm, expected to curve north-west, is being monitored by the Bermuda Weather Service. This morning it was a category two storm, packing winds of 110 mph.

Sam is not rated as a threat to Bermuda at present and it is predicted it will be 1,283 miles south-east of Bermuda at 6am on Tuesday.

But forecast models show potential for the hurricane to move closer to the island later next week.

The island had a closer call from Subtropical Storm Teresa, which formed yesterday 150 miles north of Bermuda as the busiest month of the hurricane season heats up.

Teresa, which brought rain and some thunderstorms to the island this week, is tracking north-west and is also not considered a threat to the island.
