MWI art exhibition open despite Covid-19 problems
An art exhibition organised to showcase the work of patients at the island’s psychiatric hospital is open despite pandemic problems.
Jordan Fairn, and art psychotherapist at the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute, said the opening date of the MindFrame PhotoVoice exhibition was pushed back because of the latest Covid-19 wave, but the doors were now open at the Bermuda Society of Arts in Hamilton’s City Hall.
She said: “MWI clients were asked to submit art and photography on the theme of ‘Weathering the Storm’ and we have some wonderful and creative pieces.
“It is unfortunate that this year our exhibit has coincided with the worst Covid-19 surge Bermuda has experienced, so we couldn’t have the usual opening night.
“However, the theme of resilience, of managing through the tough times, is something that is perhaps even more meaningful after the last few weeks and even years as we all take a closer look at our mental health and stamina throughout the pandemic.”
The exhibit was designed to give patients a forum to highlight their perspectives and experiences through a variety of different media.
This year’s show includes drawings, paintings, collages, photographs and sculptures.
The artists will benefit from the profits of any works sold.
The exhibition is open between 10am and 4pm on weekdays and 10am to 2pm on Saturdays until October 18.
