Police have appealed to the public not to forward social media messages that made allegations about people “of interest” to officers.
A police spokesman told the public: “Please be aware information regarding ongoing investigations involving persons of interest should not be considered accurate or legitimate unless that information is contained in an official BPS release.”
The request came after a WhatsApp message was circulated that contained allegations about a “person of interest”.
The spokesman asked anyone who got the message to delete it immediately.
