Third time lucky for Norwegian Breakaway

Third time lucky? the Norwegian Breakaway (File photograph)

A cruise ship prevented from docking by high winds for two days appears to have made it today.

By 8.30am, the Norwegian Breakaway was tied up alongside the Royal Naval Dockyard after making her way along the North Shore.

Her arrival on Wednesday had to be aborted after winds of 50 knots were recorded. Entry through the North Channel is deemed too hazardous if winds exceed 30 knots.

A second attempt to land was made early yesterday morning, but Breakaway had to turn back yet again after 30 knot gusts were recorded. She made her third attempt this morning after anchoring just off the island for two nights.

Although Breakaway has made port, her passengers will have little time to enjoy the island. The cruise ship is scheduled to leave the island later today in order to be in back in New York by Sunday.
