Clarien adds new fees, implements SafeKey regime
Some Clarien Bank customers were taken by surprise at new charges that came into effect this month – including a fee for using the teller service at the bank.
Separately, as of today, the bank is also requiring SafeKey verification and a valid ID for some customers who want to access bank premises.
Today’s new policy was put in place, the bank said, for the safety of clients, employees, consultants, and vendors.
Meanwhile, a notice posted in the banking hall lays out the new, in-person at-teller fees, which became effective November 5.
It outlines in-person, at the teller, deposits, withdrawals or credit card payments will incur a $5 fee.
“On-us cheque cashing for non-Clarien clients will incur a $50 fee.”
A Clarien statement said: “On October 5 we announced that we would be implementing new fees with an effective date of November 5.
“These new fees are related to in-person at-teller transactions such as standard deposits, withdrawals and credit card payments that can easily and safely be performed via alternative channels such as our expanded fleet of iATMs, iBank, mobile or no-wait deposits.
“Our team of banking concierges have been working diligently over the last month to help customers transition to these alternative options.”
With regard to the new SafeKey policy, the bank said: “Our primary objective in implementing SafeKey is to get our employees back to work in the office in an environment where they can provide the support and guidance clients expect from us, face to face.
“We will also continue to use technology such as virtual meetings to provide the communication options for clients if preferred.
“We believe SafeKey verification helps to strike this balance and provide our clients and employees with confidence in knowing that their safety remains our priority.”
Clients entering the bank for teller transactions/who are expected to interact with Clarien employees with masks on, behind Plexiglas barriers or for less than 15 minutes, or to interact with any staff will not be required to provide evidence of SafeKey, given the reduced risks of close contact.
All other clients must provide proof of SafeKey verification and a valid ID to enter all Clarien premises.
