Two British legal consultants, including a Queen’s Counsel, are on the island until next March to strengthen the island’s system of independent court advocates for children.

Tinée Furbert, the social development minister, revealed that “experienced family court professionals” Cyrus Larizadeh, QC and Anthony Douglas were now helping to develop Bermuda’s litigation guardian system.

She said the framework of guardians, announced in March 2020, is being strengthened in partnership with charities for children and families, as well as Alison Crocket, the Deputy Governor.

Ms Furbert said the Government aimed to develop “clear policy objectives to strengthen children’s rights”.

The consultants were said to be working with the Department of Child and Family Services, along with judges, magistrates and others in the family courts.
