Now high-flying Trojans look to tame the Big Cats

Martonmere Cup finalists Somerset Trojans can move to the top of the class with victory over current leaders and defending Premier Division champions Devonshire Cougars at Somerset Cricket Club tonight.

The West End continues to buzz with excitement following Trojans? Tuesday night win over North Village which catapulted Somerset to a first major cup final since 1994-95.

Now Trojans coach Dennis Brown and his supporting cast are hoping that momentum spills over into tonight?s crucial league clash.

Cougars, who currently hold a two-point lead at the summit over Village and Trojans, will be looking to further distance themselves from the rest of the pack and also avenge a humiliating 5-1 thrashing they received the last time they ventured to Cricket Lane.

Inspirational forward Heys Wolfe returns to Cougars? line-up after sitting out Tuesday night?s 2-1 Martonmere semi-final loss to Dandy Town through a ?slight? injury along with former Trojan Ijahmon Mallory.

Wolfe saw 45 minutes of action last Sunday against Ireland Rangers and was unfortunate not to get his name on the scoresheet on two occasions.

But it appears as though the Martonmere campaign took a physical toll on the Big Cats as Kori Goddard, Shawn Smith, Joshua Butterfield and Jeremy Deshields each picked up injuries and remain doubtful for tonight?s clash.

New acquisition Clevon Hill could start tonight while Cougars coach Andrew Bascome will be looking for the likes of Domico Coddington, Aljame Zuill and captain Kwame Steede to elevate their games.

Cougars are coming up against a team oozing with confidence, a Trojans? attack which has banged in 14 goals in five outings and a roster which has more depth than the San Antonio Spurs.

Rodre (Piper) Wilson will again link up with the likes of Rohann Simons, Dwight Basden and Stephen Astwood up front. Wilson grasped the chance to shine in the absence of injured striker Lamaul Crofton by netting a superb brace against Village, including a crucial 86th-minute strike that sent the match into extra time.

Simons also got in on the scoring act after leaping off the bench in the second half. Astwood, meanwhile will be hoping to put an end to a scoring drought stretching back to September 10 when he netted the season?s first hat-trick against Boulevard at BAA Field.
