Senior citizens have an added sense of security after power firm Belco installed perimeter lighting at a sheltered housing complex.

The energy firm responded to a request from the Ministry of Public Works to help the Bermuda Housing Trust improve safety at the Dr Cann Park Seniors Residence in Southampton.

Dr Cann Park is home to 100 people spread across four blocks and inadequate lighting had led to safety concerns.

Wayne Caines, Belco’s president, said: “When we were approached about assisting with installing lighting at the Dr Cann Park Seniors residence we were of course eager to help.

“The Belco team was happy to be a part of this project and continue our proud history of giving back to the community.”

John Barritt, the chairman of the Bermuda Housing Trust which operates the site, said he was grateful to Belco and the ministry.

Mr Barritt added: “It is generous acts like this that help the housing trust meet its mission, which is to provide a community of homes for our seniors at the most affordable rates possible.

“Contributions from responsive corporate citizens like Belco are most welcome and we thank them for lighting the way.”
