Keeper injury adds to East Enders? woes
X Roads 4 Social Club 1
Striker Nashon Smith netted all four goals as X Roads continued their climb up the table at Garrison Field.
Smith capitalised on a breakaway to give X Roads the lead in the 20th minute. Five minutes later he doubled his team?s lead when he drilled the ball into the roof of the net from just inside the 18-yard box.
The X Roads marksman then completed his hat-trick in the 75th minute when he chipped the advancing ?keeping after again outpacing the Social Club defence.
The visitors hit back five minutes later when Gary Augustus converted a late consolation directly from a corner kick. However, any thoughts Bluebirds might have had of staging a late revival were dashed when Smith slotted home a rebound minutes from the final whistle to earn his team a first win of the season.
Wolves conceded their first goals of the season but still managed to keep pace with the leaders after coming away from Lords with a comfortable victory over winless Hamilton Parish.
Michael Spence and diminutive forward Nairobi Smith each netted a brace while the ever reliable VJ Minors also got in on the scoring act. Wolves led 2-0 at the half.
Spence scored from close range in the 29th minute and then doubled Wolves? lead. Thompson pulled one back to give Parish a glimmer of hope.
However, Minors capitalised on a poor clearance by veteran defender Johnny Bean to restore Wolves? two-goal cushion midway through the second half before sub Smith jumped off the bench to net the visitors? fourth.
Sean Dill converted Parish?s second eleven minutes from time. But Smith put the match well beyond Parish?s reach when he buried Wolves fifth and final goal right on the full-time whistle.
A Jonathan Bean second-half brace gave league leaders Ireland Rangers maximum points against Prospect in the second match of a double-header at Police Field yesterday.
Rangers? fourth straight win kept them ahead of Devonshire Colts by a single goal.
Bean put Rangers out front in the 50th minute when he got behind the United defence and buried his shot past a flat-footed Khun Evans. The menacing striker then added his and his team?s second in the 75th minute with a clever backheel inside the six-yard box that gave Khun no chance.
A late Donnie Charles penalty denied visiting Somerset Eagles a first win of the season and earned home team Southampton Rangers a share of the spoils at Southampton Oval.
Eagles went ahead just before half-time whistle when Kani Fray headed home a cross that slipped through the ?keeper?s hands. However, with victory in sight Rangers turned ruined the visitors? plans when Charles converted his side?s first goal of the season from the spot after Darnell Pickney was blown for shoving an opponent in the box.
