Rangers jolted as Jarnett hits late winner

Gary Jarnett produced a late winner as MR Onions came from behind twice to hand Key West Rangers their first defeat in the Commercial League A Division on Saturday.

Having failed to make ground on leaders Robin Hood, who were idle having played their scheduled match against Tuff Dogs a month ago, Rangers remain in second place.

Richard Wilson, with a goal in the 42nd minute, sent Rangers into the interval with a 1-0 lead. Onions drew level through Chris Fleming in the 62nd minute but Rangers regained the ascendancy three minutes later when Vernal Cann notched. Onions, who have been steady in this division over the past two seasons without proving spectacular, equalised again through Richard Helme in the 72nd minute before Jarnett stole in with six minutes remaining.

BAA Wanderers continued their recovery from a woeful start with a 7-1 hammering of PHC Raiders.

BAA overwhelmed Raiders after a competitive first half in which Martin Jones and Jeff Amaral gave the the home team a flying start with goals in the second and ninth minutes before Jack Castle reduced the arrears for Raiders in the 31st.

Three goals within ten minutes of the restart put paid to Raiders' hopes of salvaging something from the match, as Brian Crook's 50th-minute goal was sandwiched by efforts in the 47th and 55th minutes to complete a hat-trick for Jones. John Doran and Jahmall Mills added to the rout in the last five minutes as Wanderers moved into fifth place.

Lobster Pot, similarly off to a disappointing start, recorded their second league win with a 4-2 result against Vasco Mariners. Troy Berkeley opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, then Pot surged into a four-goal lead aided by a Joe Barbosa own goal in the 56th minute and strikes in the 67th and 82nd minutes by Jim McLaren and Mark Milligan. Vasco's consolation came in the form of a Michael Bean brace in the 84th and 88th minutes.

The remaining game saw Cable & Wireless Exiles defeat North Village Rams 2-1. Michael Smith put Exiles ahead before Ralph Bean equalised for Rams, following up his penalty miss. Michael Trott scored in the second half to leave Rams as the only winless side in the division.

St. George's All-Stars maintained their perfect record in the B Division after a 4-2 win away to Dockyard Falcons. Freddie Hall converted a pair of penalties while Cal Rayner and Jamie Robinson had the other goals.

Falcons were given a boost earlier in the week when Bermuda Football Association ruled that Wolves Pack had used as many as five ineligible players in their match on October 6. Wolves won the match 9-5 but the result has been reversed with Falcons credited with a 3-0 victory.

Wolves returned to winning ways on the weekend with a 3-1 triumph over Bermuda Pest Control. Horace Landy, Gary Peniston and an Anthony Francis own goal accounted for Wolves' scoring while David Quig responded for Pest Control.

Prison Officers, who are in second place, two points behind the leaders, kept up the pressure after a 7-3 hammering of Devonshire Lions at Malabar field. The home team trailed early on to a Chris Pitcher goal but it was mostly one-way traffic after Reginald Codrington drew them level by half-time. Millard Rawlins and Mike Lambe scored twice each after the half with other goals coming from Brian Brangman and Dwight Richards. Consolation for Lions, who are still pointless, came in the form of Pitcher completing his hat-trick in the second half.

Prospect/Fire edged Valley International 3-2 on goals by Wendell Simmons, Darren Rathband and Neil Tunnacliffe. Kevin Isaac scored twice for Valley.

The remaining game saw Devonshire Colts All-Stars and Somerset Extros slug out a 4-4 draw at White Hill Field. Everett Wellman found the net twice for the visiting team, who also had Mike Corday sent off.

Prospect were the big winners in the latest round of the Women's League with a 9-0 thrashing of Wolves Girls on Sunday. Carla Hall led the rout with four goals while Tirena Rawlins had three and Wenda Godfrey and Carla Govia one apiece.

Hat-tricks were the theme of the day in the fixture between PHC and Robin Hood, who drew 3-3. Stephanie Fleming produced the first for PHC but she was matched by Amy Knott for Hood, who gained a valuable point.

The other match was also drawn, 1-1, between Dandy Stars and Hemisphere Royals. Stacy Smith opened the scoring for Stars and Royals left it late with Lori Murphy sealing a point eight minutes from time.
