Unbeaten Swallows are just four-midable

The mighty Swallows team continue to flex their muscles in Women's A league play this weekend as they romped to a 4-0 win over Orioles A squad.

While Orioles have struggled since reforming an A team this season, Swallows have thrived. The undefeated team have yet to concede a single goal to their opponents in four outings.

Swallows put Orioles under pressure almost immediately on Sunday as Nicky Saunders popped a goal past the 'keeper early in the first half.

The team went to the break with a 3-0 lead after Karen Campbell and Jenny Burrell added to the goal tally.

More relaxed in the second half, Swallows were rewarded with only one more goal after a solo run from Kim Stevens.

In other A league play, Bluebirds shut out Ravens with a 5-0 win.

Bluebirds came out attacking and won a number of short corners.

The Ravens rallied their defence however and Kirsten Butterworth in the central defender position drove the Blues attack to the wings as she shut down the middle. Ellen Charnley found success on the wings for the game's first goal and then Blues truly consolidated their attack.

Liz Wright and Holly Flaxbeard played in near perfect tandem with Flaxbeard feeding Wright to a natural hat-trick before adding one of her own to bring the score to 5-0.

Cardinals A team also had a successful outing when they met Swifts at the Saltus pitch on Saturday.

Cards happily took the 3-0 victory to notch their first season win.

In the Women's B league play, a highly anticipated clash between league leaders was not to be.

The undefeated Orioles squad was to face defending champions Swallows on Sunday but the match had to be postponed. Both teams have yet to concede a single goal this year.

Cardinals B team handily defeated Swifts in a 4-0 outing. While Cards initially struggled at goal in the first half, Candy Foggo soon stormed through to put the team on the scoreboard. A second goal did not follow until early in the second but Melanie Fullerton and Tania Theriault each added goals to increase the tally to four.

And Bluebirds added another game to their win column on Sunday when they beat Ravens 1-0.

Despite the loss Ravens new and experienced players showed increased skill and determination. Ravens' defence denied Blues opportunities at net through most of the first half and teams went to break mired at nil-nil.

But a goalmouth scramble in the second gave way to a Holly Flaxbeard goal to secure the win for Bluebirds.

Men's league rivals Chameleons and Rebels both secured wins over the weekend with Rebels knocking back Police Polecats 6-1 while Chameleons defeated BCS Panthers 2-1.

The Rebels-Police match saw a repeat hat-trick from Simon Farrington. He put his team up by two goals in the first half and went in search of more in the second.

Polecats Craig Burt briefly held off the Rebels defensively, but John Richmond, Dave Gutteridge and Simon Van de Weg soon poked through for goals.

Robin Dyer found the net for Police to ensure the team was not shut out of the game, but not to be denied his third goal, Farrington came back to close out the scoring for the Rebels win.
